How to Fill In the "Bottom" of an ActiveRain Post

Chances are, if you are in North Carolina and I notice that you are not filling in the "Bottom Part" of your blog posts... we've talked.

I know that other people have written posts about this - but I figured I'd show it again, and as I call more people, I can refer them to this page!

Soooo after you finish writing your masterpiece blog post, you need to take a few minutes and fill in the "Tags."  These are the words someone would enter into Google to find your post.  They should probably be in 2 - 4 word "groups" with a comma after each "group" of words.  These are called "Long Tails" or "Buying Words".

Activerain Tag Words

If this was for a listing, I recommend that you consider words that include the street name, the Subdivision, maybe the School or the price range... In fact, if I was an agent I would ask EVERYONE what words they put in Google to look for property... while there are TONS of analytical tools, I personally think it's a good idea to talk to friends and clients about what you are learning and doing online.

After you complete the Tags, complete the Hyper Local Page information.

What are Activerain Channels

CHANNELS:  You've seen this button - but didn't know what it is?  If you are new to Activerain - don't worry about what it is... just fill it out!  Who are you "targeting" with this post?  A Home Buyer?

Activerain Channels

Are you looking for First Time Home Buyers? (four words by the way) Is this an Active 55 Community? WHAT about Home Buying are you targeting????

Look on the Front of AR Before You Login

If you don't know what to fill in on Channels, go to the front page of ActiveRain and look at the Channels section... it will give you ideas.

You can check up to 5 groups

ALWAYS put your post into the appropriate Group.  Many fellow ActiveRainer's (is that a word?) interact via groups.  You can place your post in up to 5 different Groups. The idea here guys is to be SEEN.  You want people to READ what you've just spent time creating... okay, so you are TARGETING a First Time Home Buyer in Apex - Why would you want a comment from an Agent in Michigan?  Well, Google is interested in posts that OTHER PEOPLE are INTERESTED IN!  You need to subscribe to people, and you need to leave 10 comments every time you login!

Activerain Groups

Another point about Groups... see #1? Be selective about putting your post in a hyper-local small group where only the people in your county might see it... #justsayin'

Categories gives you ANOTHER chance to let Google know who you are targeting.

If you have an "Outside Blog" you need to figure out WHICH posts are focused on the topic you are amassing.  Is your Outside Blog for Luxury Homes? Well then you might not want to put a post for First Time Home Buyers in that "separate" Blog.  Is it about NYC? Then you might not want to put a post about the other side of the Hudson... Many agents I talk to don't want to "Limit" themselves to one category - if that's who you are, then I personally don't recommend taking the time and effort to build an Outside Blog.

I want you to know that I get calls every week from Consumers and Agents that find us through ActiveRain.  Blogging works - but it works faster and better if you will use all of the tools you are given!  Fill In The Bottom of your blog posts!!

Hey guys!  I decided I would do a couple of quick tutorials for folks that I call, and make suggestions to... so many people are working REALLY hard - but you need to use all of the tools available!

If the post is for "Members ONLY' What is the benefit for using tags?

Posted by Gary & Melynda Wolter (CRS) 480-269-1164, Reliable, Premier Personal Service since 2001 (Revelation Real Estate) about 9 years ago

Gary - good question!  Even if the Post was "Members Only" it should have tags.  Members Only posts are directed at Fellow Rainers... and the information is still very valuable.  I personally search AR as much as I search Google for information.

Reposted to Newbies - thanks.

Thx. I've been using these, but just realized today, that I"m not posting correctly in the channels.  I select Home Improvement, but didn't realize that I needed a subcategory in there.  At least I know going forward.

Although, I have been blogging here for a while, it is interesting to see what I have been doing.  Great tutorial.

Wow! Thanks for the help! I read your comment that you search AR as much as google. I have a hard time searching AR. When I search for groups it always comes up blank. I have better luck if I use the search box along the top of the page. Is there a trick to searching that you can share?

Example: I searched groups for the word flowers to see if there was a flower group. Nothing. Finally, I saw a flower group in someone else's group list and joined from there. I can't figure it out. :O/

I learned this the hard way so here is a tutorial to learn it the easy way. The bottom of the post entry process is just as important as the title and what is in between! Just reblogged in Southern Maryland!

Very helpful. I've been filling out the bottom of the pages using a guessing game.... I will be more selective about the tags, channels and groups from now on. Every little bit helps... thanks for taking the time to share.

Thank You Eleanor, and thanks for the personal coaching on this recently. I have a question, how do you get the arrows and the page on your post like that?

Eleanor - This is a very well written post for newbies on how to prepare a post.

Hey gusy - thanks for the comments and re-blogs, I'm going to do a post this week about pictures.  We just had a REBarCamp in Raleigh, and TONS of people want to start blogging.  Figured this might help!

David  - I did a print screen, went to PAINT, made a "line" in red to create the arrows.  I'm sure there''s a more sophisticated tool - I'm just about simple.  Here's an example of how I used that in a different blog post (same print screen idea) for the map, I used PowerPoint tools, but same concept.
